History of the Riceman

Every Festival or event needs a mascot and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival is proud to have Riceman.

Riceman was born in 1990 and was seen on T-shirts, advertising, and signs.  For years, Riceman stayed in the rice fields.  But, he wanted to come to town more often and for that he needed a makeover.

So, thanks to the Arts and Graphics School and Production of Katy, owned by Mary Ellen Reeves Figinsky, the “new” Riceman emerged.  Gary Tuttle also with Arts and Graphics School and Production of Katy helped Riceman learn to drive a tractor bearing a Katy license plate and transformed him into Super Riceman as he trained for the Rice Harvest 5k Fun Run/Walk.

As Riceman developed his skills and talents in his new adult life, he learned to give presentations, cook award winning rice recipes and take prize pictures.  And, of course, he was totally flattered when he was asked to escort the Katy Rice Harvest Festival Senior Queen.
